Wray headed to Mt.St.Mary's

Mt. St. Mary's head basketball coach Jamion Christian has done it again. Christian has landed another commitment for the 2014 season.
6-6 forward Chris Wray from Shelby, NC is the latest to commit to the Mount. Wray averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds during his junior season at Shelby. He will finish his high school career this year, spend a year at prep school next season and join the Mount in the fall of 2014. He's a high energy player who should fit right in with the style of play Christian will employ.
Wray joins Cameron Jackson as the second commit for the 2014 season. Northeastern PA's Khalid Nwandu will join in 2013.
The video below shows Wray's athleticism and it becomes easy to see him as an important part in the blue in white. '
With this addition, Wray adds another long and lean body to the stable that Christian is assembling. In 2014, the Mount will have at least 7 6-6 players or taller. Many of those are long and athletic who can do more than just post on the low block.

Highly Touted 4-Star Guard Narrows his College Choices

Roddy Peters entered the spring travel-team season with a couple of high-majors looking at him, but he was still taking a backseat to AAU teammates Nate Britt and Kris Jenkins. Five months later, Peters is one of the most sought-after point guards on the board.
"Last year I wasn't ranked," Peters said on Thursday, pointing to his individual improvement and increased exposure as primary reasons for the boost.
The 6-foot-4 Suitland (Md.) is now No. 47 in the CBSSports.com top 100, good enough to be ranked No. 10 in a loaded point guard class. As a result of his play with DC Assault during the spring and summer, Peters saw his recruitment skyrocket as well.
He trimmed his list to seven schools back at the beginning of August but has since dropped Seton Hall and Memphis.
"Just tightening up my schools a little," Peters said.
Conversely, one school has entered the picture recently. Kansas hasn't kept it secret that it's looking for a point guard in this class, and the Jayhawks lost two of their biggest targets in the past week with Anthony "Cat" Barber and Chris Jones both committing. Demetrius Jackson is still on Kansas' board, but Bill Self and staff have also really picked up their interest in Peters.
Peters has returned some of the increased interest.
"I like the history, and I like the style of play," he said.
Peters has been busy the past several weeks, taking several steps in his recruitment. He hosted XavierUCLA andRutgers on in-home visits recently. He took unofficial visits to Maryland and Georgetown during the summer, and tripped officially to Xavier. Peters will go another official visit this week, as he heads to Rutgers.
There is a DC Assault connection with the Scarlet Knights, as Rutgers assistant David Cox was formerly involved with the famed AAU program. A pipeline has begun to grow between the two, with Wally JudgeJerome Seagears andMalick Kone all currently on the roster.
"I just want to see how the campus is," Peters said. "See how the players interact with each other."
He also has an official visit planned to UCLA on Oct. 6.
While some people point to Maryland being Peters' leader, he made it clear he has no favorite right now. He also said he has no timetable for a decision.
"I want a good education and a nice place to be," Peters said.

NEC Power LIU-Brooklyn Suspends 4 Key Basketball Players

Blackbirds swinging in the dead of night.
Four players from the two-time defending NEC champs, Long Island University (Brooklyn) , were arrested Thursday night and have been subsequently suspended from school for the immediate future. The news was first reported byBrooklyn News 12's Pat O'Keefe on Thursday night. The arrest of four players -- Julian Boyd , Troy JosephC.J. Garnerand Jamal Olasewere -- stemmed from a fight last weekend with fellow LIU-Brooklyn students.
All four basketball players were charged with assault following their arrests on Thursday night. The fight took place late Friday/early Saturday morning, according to the New York Post, which reported that the fight involved four track team members, who were hospitalized, but a university official told CBSSports.com no track team members were involved in the incident.
UPDATE, 11:15 a.m.: School athletic director John Suarez just released this brief statement.
"LIU Brooklyn has suspended indefinitely four members of its men's basketball team for their involvement in a Sept. 14 altercation on campus. No other student-athletes were implicated in this incident. Until all legal and appeals processes have been completed, we will not comment further on this matter."
Boyd, Olasewere and Garner were the Blackbirds' three leading scorers last season. The program is seeing success unlike it has before, becoming a high-octane offense with big size and big talent all over the floor. However, that success led to the program losing its coach, Jim Ferry, to Duquesne last spring. Former LIU Brooklyn assistant Jack Perri was promoted in April. Clear to see here Perri's not messing around, though the school suspension indicates this decision goes above his head.
The banning of the four from classes has an uncertain timeline right now, as they will have to go through an appeal process before a board with the school before getting back on campus, let alone back on the team.
Boyd is the biggest name. He was the NEC Player of the Year last season in addition to garnering an honorable mention for AP All-American. Olasewere is also a very valuable piece. Without those two, not including the additional losses of Garner and Joseph, LIU Brooklyn is a much different team, one that significantly would be challenged to win a third straight conference title.
